Oro Valley Marketplace

Oro Valley Marketplace future site

The Oro Valley Marketplace is going to be the place of many great evenings of movies and popcorn.  Days will be spent in the many shops and restaurants that will make up this shopping culture center for Oro Valley.

The Oro Valley Marketplace has been the center of a lot of discussions since the idea was first proposed.

A topic we often discuss while driving around town is what we would like to see in the New Oro Valley Marketplace.  The new theatres are already set to come and that is great.

Cinemark USA Theatres

The Cinemark USA theatres are going to be a huge draw and we love the idea of having a state of the art theatre right here in town.

In-N-Out Burger

We have already expressed our wish to see an In-N-Out burger as part of the marketplace when we wrote Oro Valley In N Out Burger back in April.

The Cheesecake Factory

The Cheesecake Factory is another place we think would be a very popular attraction and addition to the Oro Valley Market Place.

Restaurant with Dance Floor

There are a lot of people that have taken up some form of ballroom dancing and it would be nice to have a place to actually dance.

Dancing with the Stars and So You Think You Can Dance are two very popular shows on TV these days.  They have lead to an increase in the number of people taking dance lessons.  Unfortunately, once you have paid for your lessons and learned the basics you quickly find there are few places to dance besides the studio where you learned and your own living room.

Sure there is the occasional Christmas Party or Wedding, but. . .  It would really be nice to have a place in the Oro Valley Marketplace where you could have a great meal, get a drink enjoy some music and dance.

Already Slated to be coming:

  • Best Buy
  • Cinemark USA Theatres
  • Cost Plus World Market
  • Keg Steakhouse
  • Olive Garden
  • Walmart

What Would You Like in the Oro Valley Marketplace?

This is just a few of the things that have come to mind.  What would you like to see become a part of the Oro Valley Marketplace?

Comments

  1. Sounds like there’s a lot to look forward to in Oro Valley — and I’m sure it will bring more homebuyers with it.

  2. I’d like to see some different types of restaurants. I would LOVE to have a Papadeaux restaurant in Tucson. That would be a huge drawing card, I guarantee you. Fabulous Cajun cusine. They are run my a chain called Papa’s Restaurants in Texas. There’s a Papadeaux in Denver, so they do operate out of state.

I’m sorry to see more of the same ol, same ol, strip mall places like Best Buy. I’m happy to drive 5-7 miles south for that type of store. Oro Valley already has Home Depot. I’m particularly chagrined over the thought of a Walmart store. Not at all what I’d like to see in Oro Valley Marketplace.

An Anthony’s Homeport, (NW seafood chain restaurant w/ mid price great seafood) wouldn’t hurt my feelings either. I don’t now if they operate outside the NW, Seattle area, but someone could always ask.

  3. Susan,

Those sound like excellent suggestions. Funny I just heard of Papa’s for the first time today. It would be great to have on here in Oro Valley, and I think Oro Valley could really use a good seafood place. Anthony’s Homeport would make an great addition to the Oro Valley Marketplace as well.

  4. Amy Miller says:

An Arts and Crafts store and store like Joannes, many thousands of women would appreciate as well as a Red Lobster with Olive Garden

  5. Amy,

Those are excellent suggestions. We like both Olive Garden and Red Lobster. I’m interested in Anthony’s Homeport Susan mentioned above.

These are all great suggestions I hope we see more.

Thanks Amy, Susan and Erin for sharing your ideas.

  7. Hello.
Although I can respect your desire to keep the Wal-Mart issue out of the Oro Valley Marketplace, it does
seem to be at the core of the center.
It is really more about the EDA between the developer and the town that has caused the controversy
Also as a real estate professional this issue can and will
    impact your business.

About what I would like to see at the OVM. One a nice department store. More restuarants, something for every price range. An area marketed as a restaurant row type setting could work. We don’t need any more fast food or pizza chains.
A section dedicated to some nicer clothing stores would also work.
Heck even an outlet area would be better then—.
Also an area that would cater to tourists, sort of like the Arizona Alley section they have near the food court at the Tucson Mall.
Costco would aslo be a better choice then the —-.
So Dave and realtors if you have any influence please see if you can influence Vestar.

  8. Hi Joan,

You are the first to follow back to the original post, congratulation : )

First, I like all your suggestions. They are great and I hope someone from Vestar and Oro Valley are reading these posts and comments. Which by the way is one of the reasons I don’t want this to be about the debate. When Vestar and OV officials see more of the same, they just click off.

I want them to see postive suggestions and comments.

Second, I have to chuckle a bit at the thought realtors and I might have some influence. I wish we did. If so there wouldn’t even be a debate over the — coming to town.

I like the way you have managed to turn a reference to a much disliked company into an expletive deleted. : )

I also read in the Northwest Explorer today they have declared a halt to letters to the editor and guest columns about this issue.

There are so many good stores that could be in the OVM that do provide a unique experience but still aren’t so pricey all anybody does is look. I hope we see some of these coming in the near future.

Thanks for dropping by Joan with your suggestions. Maybe you will have more influence with Vestar than you will ever know.

  9. As a homeowner at the Vistoso Resort Casitas in Oro Valley, I would love to see a Cheesecake Factory as well as the Papa chain. I’ve been to all of the Papa restaurants in Houston. There are 3 that come to mind, Papadeaux (cajun/seafood flavor), PapaBros (Steak really) and Papasidos (Mexican food). Any one of them would be great! Also, the PF Changs in Scottsdale is phenomenal so having that restaurant in the Marketplace could provide an oriental alternative.

  10. Ken,

Thanks for your suggestions, That’s two that have suggested Cheesecake Factory and Papdeaux. Yes, I suggested the Cheesecake Factory, but it still counts: )

  11. I really like the idea of a seafood place. One that comes to my mind is, The Fish Market with locations in California and Arizona. http://www.thefishmarket.com/

Personally, I think that a California Pizza Kitchen ( http://www.cpk.com/ ) would be a great idea.

If a bookstore is still being considered then I would suggest Joseph-Beth Booksellers ( http://www.josephbeth.com/ )

Throw in a fine Mexican restaurant, an ice cream joint, perhaps a Johnny Rockets ( http://www.johnnyrockets.com/index2.php ) and they’ll be set. Except for one thing!!!! Oro Valley needs a GREAT place to have breakfast. I think that The Original Pancake House would be a no brainer ( http://www.originalpancakehouse.com/ )

Oh and a sports dining establishment like Buffalo Wild Wings would be nice… ( http://www.buffalowildwings.com/ )

**A Cheesecake Factory would be nice, but given that they did not set up shop at La Encantada…I’d say that it won’t happen.

  12. Jon,

From you list I’m going out on a limb and guess, “You like to eat”?

Your comment got caught in the spam filter for a couple of day. I like your list and one thing you mentions rings very true with me.

“Oro Valley needs a GREAT place to have breakfast.”

    I like to eat too.
Thanks for the suggestions. Hey, we can always hope for a cheesecake factory.

  13. Hi to all.
Yes we do need a few good places to have breakfast!
Never heard of the original pancake house but will check the site.
Sorry to say that we hear the French Twist Cafe has closed.
I know it is probably not a like a chain breakfast place, I had never gone but meant to with the nice coupons. Well now it is too late.

Again I would like to say it would be nice to have a variety, something for everybody.
If you want a nicer type breakfast out with company the resorts are great but for the basic comfort food breakfast, we don’t have it.
Somebody mentioned Mexican, well personally I think we have enough Mexican places and chain pizza places.
Would love to see a few “real” pizza places.
    Well I can dream.

  14. Joan,

Of course you can dream and I’m with you all the way. I think we have enough Mexican places and some Good Real Pizza close would be fantastic.

And a breakfast place, I’ve already said I would like that a lot. Sorry French Twist already closed. I was afraid of it. It was nice but we need a place you can afford to go everyday if you want.

    Thanks Joan for dropping by.

  15. In reply to Joan’s comment above. I would LOVE to see an upscale
clothing store at the Market Place. It’s probably too much to hope for, but Nordstroms comes to mind. It’s upscale, but also has more moderate priced clothing as well…not to mention some great sales. Neiman Marcus or Saks 5th (not off Saks) would also be nice….but definately more pricey. I’d be happy to see Nordstroms move in anywhere in Oro Valley area.

REI or LLB also might be nice, and appropriate given the Marketplace proximity to hiking etc.

  16. Oh yes…..I too would love a bookstore. The closest at this time is Foothills mall or Borders way down on Oracle. I’m not familiar with JosephBeth….but any nice bookstore would be great!

  17. Aimee Benett says:

I would like to see a Sweet Tomatos restaurant or even a Boston Market.

  18. Aimee,

Sweet Tomatoes gets my vote. I love building a salad.

  19. Dave,
Can you give us any updates as to what is coming to the marketplace? There are a lot of great suggestions listed, I’d love to see and AJ’s market, and some unique, upscale clothing too.

  20. Ryan,

It’s been a while since I heard anything on New stores coming to the OV Marketplace. The last one is the Keg which should be opening soon if not now.
